I am trying to learn to play on keyboard and am a fan of 70s-80s art-rock like melodies (Yes, Genesis, etc.).

I'm looking for music tutors or books on this area.

Also applicable: simple midi/notes for learning or musician sites/forums which focus on this rock genre.

Do there exist databases with music fragments (midi/notes), sorted by genre?

Some hints take "Rock Keyboard" book from the "Hal Leonard Keyboard Style Series". But there are only a few examples (notes and .mp3).

For tutors, try posting on http://www.craigslist.com/ or http://www.gumtree.com

There aren't too many online well organised collections of midi sorted by genre, maybe try sheet music sites or look for some kind of samples cd in the genre for music production

If craigslist and gumtree are no help, I would recommend asking your nearest music store - depends what country you're in how you'd find that though - but most music shops keep lists of local teachers. – John Jul 6 '11 at 17:57

Play piano in general. Develop as a player. Learn to read music. Learn songs and listen to music, and learn to play by ear. Take lessons.
