My little brother wants to learn drumming, and seeing that I have a cheap RockBand drums clone lying around I wanted to know if there are is some kind of didactic software for drums that accepts MIDI input. This way I could hack something up with that little toy and he could interface with the software.

I'm not a drummer myself, but I'm imagining something that shows rhythmic patterns, drum techniques and has some guided lessons. A quick search did not show anything like it.

You can download the Octopus Sequencer by signing up for free from here. Here is a video from the owner of the software.

After the comments, I think this is what you mean exactly. If so, I will try to see if I can find anything similar to it.

That looks promising, but could you specify how the software contemplates my question. Does it work with MIDI input and are there lessons available? –  lfzawacki Sep 28 '11 at 14:17

@lfzawacki Ah, you meant interact with the software. Sorry for the misreading. I thought you want to create examples and play along with them. That was the didactic part for me. I will edit my answer accordingly once I have the chance to search and locate the related software (if any). –  user1306 Sep 28 '11 at 14:23

@lfzawacki Is this closer to what you have asked for? –  user1306 Sep 28 '11 at 14:35

Yes, that seems precisely what I was looking for. I'll check this out later today. –  lfzawacki Sep 28 '11 at 14:56
