What are the canonical drumming books? In particular, I'm thinking of western-style kit drumming, for rock, jazz, roots, and related styles (ie. not hand-drumming. Can include non-western music styles).

Please give a basic description of what the books cover, what style of teaching they use. (I'm particularly interested in books that teach by using large passages/whole songs, but this question is not limited to that style).

I think this is a bit broad as well. In general we don't do "lists of things"; as per our FAQ, questions should be about specific and reasonably scoped problems. For example, a question about how to perform a specific drum technique would be a great question. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have that would be a better fit here. – Matthew Read♦ Jul 3 '12 at 16:59
@MatthewRead: Personally I think a lot of potentially useful questions get closed far too quickly on this site. I know that this question for trumpet would have at most two or three books as an answer, not a whole list. I don't see the scope problem here. I also don't really see why a question about how to perform a specific drum technique would be a better question. It certainly wouldn't be as broadly useful. – naught101 Jul 4 '12 at 1:06
For anyone interested, there are some list on the 'net, like teman.com/drums/book2.htm, but they don't describe the books at all, so they're a bit useless. – naught101 Jul 28 '12 at 1:53
