I've been playing and composing music all through my life, and I want a sort of showcase to store and make it available.

I was thinking about Myspace, but from several sources I heard it is in a decline phase (for example, The Decline of Myspace: Future of Social Media).

I've found out PureVolume, but I'm not sure it is what I'm seaerching for.

So my queston is:

  1. Do you think that Myspace is still a valid network on where to put my music?
  2. If not, do you know another site which could work for my needs?

I think MySpace lost out to Facebook as a social environment.

Soundcloud is becomming very popular as a music sharing service.

Also more geared to commercial exposure is Bandcamp.

I think these are two very established sites, but there are many more nowadays that can provide a similar portal, and no single overbearing central one I know of.

The problem is that there are hundreds of these - I know we use 6 or 7 regular ones for my band music, as well as YouTube and our own website. And we change them over time - they all go in phases, so what may be the favourite right now may not be in 6 month's time. – Dr Mayhem♦ Jan 13 at 22:14

First of all, as I think, Last.fm should be top-1 site you should consider in both situations, because this is a music-based social network!

The second one is Bandcamp, that was already mentioned. It provides you an ability to be enough flexible in in the means of royalties for your work.

Further answer depends just on the one thing. Do you you have desire to share music for free or to ask money for it?

If you are not going to sell your music, try to put it on torrent trackers, as well as on closed invite-only music trackers like Waffles.fm, What.Cd, JPopsuki.eu(asian music) and others. Obviously you need an invitation, but you can get one for What.Cd easily by passing an interview.

Also, I would suggest finding communities connected with such music, like forums or discussion boards.

If you want to sell your music, try audio stocks. Personally, I can recommend Audio Jungle, Pond5, Revostock and iStockPhoto(don't look at the site name, it has audio section too).
