Musical Practice & Performance Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for musicians, students, and enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I haven't been able to find anything that particularly relates to this, and I'm sorry if this is a duplicate, but what are the best books to learn about music theory? I honestly have no idea about what's well regarded in the area, so any help with the matter would be greatly appreciated. Also, if it makes any difference, I'm learning the piano.

Thank you.

I recommend "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory, 2nd Edition". This book covers everything from reading music, to composing melodies, to chord construction and beyond. Best book for beginners to start with.
