How do I choose my first guitar for self-learning? I think this is great advice. If you buy a reasonably good quality guitar, you are more likely to have a good learning experience and you can always sell it if you need to. If you buy a cheap guitar, it will hinder your learning experience and nobody is going to want it if you decide to sell it later. Spend a little extra and buy a quality instrument because it will serve you well in the long run. |

Free exercise books It might be helpful if you could relate what style of guitar you want to focus on. A beginner book for learning rock on electric guitar would be different than a beginner book for fingerstyle acoustic. |

How do you tune your guitar? @bobobobo: Not necessarily. Sometimes you're not as concerned about being tuned to a reference pitch like A440 as you are concerned about being in tune with another guitar (or intrument). Personally, I always use a tuner, but if you don't have one and you're just jamming with some other musicians, you can just pick a reference pitch and everyone tunes to it. |

How should I tune a guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo? Another crucial step is to try to get the strings stretched out as much as possible before locking down the nut. |

How should I tune a guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo? I usually adjust the fine tuners with a bias so that there is extra room to raise the pitch of the string, since as they are played they tend to go flat. |
