How to handle a newly purchased score book that won't stay opened? No, unless the clothespins are dirty. But I keep some apart only for this purpose. ;D You have to be careful to not crumple the paper at the place where you apply them. |

English translation for “rubato” Why not literally? Stolen time or robbed time. Cause that's what you do. |

Prokofiev's style He's one of my favorites, maybe not of all era. But I always find his themes enticing and his way to develop them even more so. I often notice that music from movies is using a lot from him. So finding out where they got their stuff from was a revelation, and the source is definitely better! He has produced a lot of accessible music, but also very intricate music. His musical universe is so rich that I could live on an isolated island listening only to his repertoire. |

What are the most effective ear training methods ? Very nice! Do you know about software helping in the 3rd category, i.e. hearing the music while reading it. It's easy to find software for the other two types of training. Ideally, I would like an online application. Should I start a separate question about it? |

How can I train my ear for music? I like your suggestion to start with pop songs since they often have easier chord patterns. However, even so, some songs will be easier and some tougher. Is there like an index ordered according to complexity of pop songs? That would be nice. |

How to handle a newly purchased score book that won't stay opened? I never do page turns. I just memorise some parts if it takes more than 2 pages or when the pages are on opposite sides. If I play a longer piece, then I just use copies, that's easier. I'm not fast or handy enough at turning anyway, so I don't really care that much. |

What are the most effective ear training methods ? Really, I don't see why 7 is cheating. We're not talking about having a contest, we're talking about using whatever means possible to help train the ear and I think that is an effective method. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here from a pedagogical point of view. |
