I play guitar on my own, at open mic nights, and as part of a weekly get-together for guitarists, and as part a reggae band, for fun.

comment Which F to use on a bass?
I didn't downvote, but - no F is "recommended" over any other. Use the F that sounds best to you in the context of whatever it is you're playing.

comment Distortion pedals and tube amps
@JDuv that's a good point; it happens that my 2 channel amp doesn't have a switch; both inputs are always active.

@NReilingh would you have the same issue playing guitar with a capo? Keyboard with the pitch shifted?

According to Wikipedia "Some instrument families, like trombones and tubas, are not written transposed." - but no reason is given. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transposing_instrument

comment How can I use a trumpet in a pop rock band?
As Wheat said, listen to some Cake. Also lots of Super Furry Animals songs use trumpet well.

comment Why is B flat in this key sigiture when B is never played?
I replaced "accidentals" with "sharps and flats". An accidental is a sharp or flat in-line with the notes, where a note deviates from the key signature.
