comment Use only - 3 strings on six string guitar - which ones would you use and how would you tune them?
It's an interesting question, but it's wrong for this site because it's completely subjective. Ask somewhere where you can have a lively discussion.

comment How to mic an upright piano to record singing and playing?
Put it where you would want an audience to be.

I think close micing/internally micing a piano is reasonable in a few circumstances (1) in live situations where feedback and sound leaks must be avoided (2) if you want to experiment with the effected sounds that come from close-micing (3) if you're recording the piano from loads of mics and intend to painstakingly mix the result to get the effect you want (and in this case you'd also mic the room). If you want a natural sounding piano, though, with the least hassle, just mic the room.

comment Looper app for iPad?
As well as an audio interface, you'll probably want a MIDI foot switch. You don't want to have to let go of your instrument to control Loopy.

There is no "right" way, but the way most books/teachers teach, you don't use your thumb, and you pluck with two-to-three fingers. I'm ill-disciplined and use my thumb a lot. A thumb pluck sounds quite different to a finger pluck.

Play without muting. Do you like what you hear? If so, carry on. If not, mute.

comment Why are notes on the harmonica laid out the way they are?
It's the same arrangement for melodeons. Accordions have the same notes on the blow and draw.

comment Put a cup of water inside a piano?
My parents received the same advice from their piano tuner, probably 30 years ago now. It may slightly raise the humidity inside the piano -- although whether by a significant margin, I don't know.
