Graduate level software engineer with a love for guitar, and have played for many years. I never made it big in the music space, but I have lent my "skills" for a couple of studio sessions for some friends. Now instead of concentrating on "making it" I enjoy writing and recording the music that is my passion. I have an abnormal obsession with gear of all kinds, and I have spent a couple of years tweaking what I have until it sounds exactly the way I want it to :D.
I've also built my own amps/pedals/guitars, and heavily modified the stock one's I own. I'm an electrical engineering nerd--although I don't think I could handle it as a profession--I still find the physical properties of guitars/amps/effects fascinating. You can find me on twitter at the address below.

Where to put guitar Harmonizer in effects chain? @Hubert Dr. Mayhem nailed it. I've never seen a harmonizer placed in a modulation block on all the boards I've worked on, built, or scoped at a concert for the reasons stated by both Dr. Mayhem and my original post. You're free to put it wherever you want of course--but the nature of the effect lends itself to being placed first as I explain in my answer. |

What are the advantages of point to point (PTP) wiring? I prefer eyelet's as well ;). Nothing makes me happier than to get a new pedal in the mail, open it up, and find a nice, tidy build with everything where it makes sense. Thanks for the answer. |

What should I look for when determining the quality of guitar and pedal cables? One of your statements is inaccurate. A lack of shielding isn't the only or primary cause of buzz or hum. Shielding is useful on guitars equipped with single coils where the 60 cycle hum is a problem (something humbuckers were invented to address). It will also help with keeping stray RF noise from inducing signals on your pickups as you mention. However, anything from improper grounding to a bad solder joint can cause hum. |

How do you successfully share another drummer's kit at a show? "If you can only swap out one amp, make it the guitar player's amp" +1, because it clearly goes to eleven--which is one louder than ten. Let's see a bass amp do THAT. </foolish-banter> |

Using a looper live - how to connect playback and overdub to 2 different amps? Apologies, but it's unclear exactly what you are asking. It seems that want to be able to play in stereo with your Looper, but I'm lost in the details. Maybe you could revise your question a little bit so I can understand it better? |

Guitar Amplifier (Head versus Combo versus None) I can't believe I'm upvoting a POD recommendation--but this is a good solution to the problem :D. |

Bolt 100 watt amp making a phaser noise A blown speaker or dead tube will not produce a "phaser" tone. We need some more information about this in order to properly answer it. Have you tried playing it dimed without any pedals to see if you can reproduce the issue? As horatio points out certain combinations of pedals can produce a phasey tone. |

Do distortion pedals work well with tube amps? Or should I use a tube screamer? Perfectly valid strategy too ;D. |
