When learning a piece, concentrate on playing the beginning really well or the whole piece the same? +1 for tight transitions. |

What is the importance of practicing scales on piano, and the proper fingering of them? @idober That sentence is a little weird. I mean "why not write them" to be from the composer's perspective. Scales feel satisfying to play in a piece (speaking for myself at least), so composers can take an opportunity to indulge the performer by throwing in a scale at appropriate moments. Oh and @Michael, +1 for F# major, gliding over black keys is so satisfying. |

What is the convention for splitting 4 parts of the same instrument in a score? Thanks so much! All the examples I found in Adler never seemed to have more than 2 bassoons. For context, I have an reduced excerpt of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique to reorchestrate for an assignment--so it's definitely in line with the common cases you described. Nothing crazy. |

Quickly flip a page of sheet music while playing What if your page turning system involves planned page falling? It's probably not great for the stage, but I'll have my sheet music as separate sheets and kinda just flick them off the stand as I go. |
