Why is the piano such a commonly used instrument? @SRiss - That said, there are certainly things you can do with other instruments that you cant with a piano. |

Why is the piano such a commonly used instrument? @SRiss - #2: One can play extended chords and intersperse a melodic line on the guitar, its not the same as independently playing melody and rhythm #4: its possible to play some duets on the guitar, but its limited compared to the piano (by ergonomics and the fact that only 6 notes can be played at any one time no matter how many hands there are). #1: I have never seen a 10 string guitar, maybe a lapsteel one perhaps? #3: I dont know of any orchestral instrument out of the pianos range, can you point me to one?- Its more than just range - im a guitarist btw. |

Examples of songs or phrases played in different temperaments The variety lost, is in those songs which use quarter tones and other sub-divisions of notes - unless a piece uses some of these tones (ad loses something via transpositions into equal temperament) then its difficult to compare. Sadly i have no examples. If your transposing something from one temperament into another which has least all the tones of the source temperament, then nothing is lost (learning to play it on your instrument is another matter). |

Do you count mental practice when counting total practice time for the day? As a musician all musical experiences you encounter are practice/training/learning - Listening/reading/imagining, all stimulate your musical brain, however as @Alex has suggested, none of these activities do so much so as actually playing |

How to maximize band rehearsal time? @Matthew Read - And i haven't seen any literature which suggests that very specific questions are bad, if you cant go ahead and ask specific questions on a SE site then that really narrows down the questions you can actually ask. |

How to maximize band rehearsal time? @Matthew Read - Not necessarily - the answers on the question would still vary since many people would have different ideas on how to use the time. And the answers could be applied to most other similar situations. The idea is that the additional background provides quality to the question. |

How to maximize band rehearsal time? I think a question: "We have X Y Z tracks to learn - this is the type of ensemble - these are the member skill levels - we have X hours per day for two weeks to get this down - how best to use the time?" Would be good. |
