comment How to start making musique concrète?
@DrMayhem, the question may superficially appear to invite discussion, but it is almost certainly answerable with one or more real answers. If you doubt this assertion, see the answers to the question I linked above. I think oberdada understood this point. I don't think the definition of musique concrète is more debatable than the definition of any other genre, and that wasn't what the poster asked anyway (I supplied the term, then the poster edited the question to use it).

This is kind of an answer and a question. If you have an actual question, ask one as a new question.

comment What purpose do accidentals serve in music?
@Dan That helps a little, though actually "melody" and "counterpoint" are likely to have different issues in this case. More specific questions might include, "How can I use chromatics to embellish a melody?" or "How can I use chromatic embellishments in my counterpoint?" The second question would require answering the first, if you don't know its answer. In fact, I think they are two different questions...

@oberdada And I look forward to reading it! Do you think that it would be possible to edit/narrow the question specifically so that you can provide your answer? Closures/now "on hold" questions can be a bit discouraging for the original author, so if we can provide a little help, that might be a good thing.

comment What are the rules for using diminished chords in part writing?
@jjmusicnotes A leading tone is, of course, a special case of a tendency tone. I did not address fully-diminished seventh chords, which you probably know have no fewer than eight resolutions and could appear in any inversion. ii-half-dim-7 is, as you mention, sometimes employed as a form of mode mixture. You know, sooner or later, we're going to have an entire undergraduate theory curriculum on here...

Now that I have answered your question, on re-reading it, I realize I only answered the question for ii-dim, not for other diminished triads. vii-dim serves an entirely different function, though the reasoning behind first-inversion triads is similar.

I think this question has potential here if you narrow its scope. Consider starting here and finding a more specific question to ask in order to build on this "starting-point" idea, specifically for the type of music you are attempting to compose and record. For now, I'm voting to reopen because: 1) You are new here, 2) Your question can be edited to be quite good, 3) Potentially-good questions should be encouraged, especially from new users, and 4) I despise unilateral closures.

I think your question can be answered somewhat as-is, but you may have a little better luck by clarifying what exactly you are trying to do. Are you wanting to compose? Perform? Record? All of the above? Also, "avant-garde" is not exactly a style. It sounds like you might be talking about musique concrète, but I'm not entirely sure.
