♦Mod on GFH.SE

I have a wide range of interests, including music, history, and math. I have been playing music for three of four years now and play the cornet, recorder, and piano. 100% of the music on my computer is classical, so you should know what genres I prefer ;). I enjoy studying any history and researching my genealogy. American English is my first language, pero tambien hablo Español. I am also currently taking Calculus 1.

comment Why is the recorder a good instrument to start with?
With lower recorders, you can't just twist them to make them playable the other way around. There is no way I could possibly play my tenor with my right hand on top.

comment Learn music professionally, not classical and not jazz?
Most pop-like genres (e.g., rock, hip-hop, etc.) came from jazz. Knowing how to play jazz can be very helpful when playing those genres.

Most online Skype-type apps just can't physically be synced close enough for you to play together.

comment Acoustic considerations for positioning an upright piano against the wall?
Why does having it right next to the wall boost the treble frequencies?

This is not anywhere near complete.

comment Is there a way to repair key on a digital piano?
This is a valid answer. If the OP is looking for a do-it-yourself manual, she should specify.

comment Small natural above C in G Major
The octaves are changed here because this is an arrangement for the recorder and to keep the original octaves would place some portions out of the instruments' ranges.

Do you want red freehand circles too? :D

comment Why does my violin's A-string show signs of damage after only a week?
Perhaps. I've always seen it as referring to the group as a whole. What's the purpose of the tag if it simply refers to any stringed instrument? There are already tags for every instrument.

comment Is it possible to play a low A on a recorder
If your playing a recorder in C, that is impossible. The tutorial you linked to is for a recorder in F.

comment High D on Tenor Recorder
My question was more about the technique than the fingering. BTW, though, that link is already in my bookmarks. :P

I am talking about the C two ledger lines above the top of the G clef. Does that clarify?

comment High D on Tenor Recorder
I tried this again with your advice, and I was able to hit the high D (haven't tried higher). I think my problem was partly that my throat was a little tight. However breath control was the larger problem. My recorder seems to get finicky in the upper range. If I over or underblow at all up there, it goes way off. How I got around that was by holding a B and slurring to C without changing how I was blowing at all. It took a few tries, but I eventually got it and was able to get C, C#, and D spot on. I'm now working on hitting them consistently starting an octave lower. Thanks for your help.
