♦Mod on GFH.SE

I have a wide range of interests, including music, history, and math. I have been playing music for three of four years now and play the cornet, recorder, and piano. 100% of the music on my computer is classical, so you should know what genres I prefer ;). I enjoy studying any history and researching my genealogy. American English is my first language, pero tambien hablo Español. I am also currently taking Calculus 1.

comment Parallel octaves vs doubled octaves
So, the difference between doubled octaves and parallel octaves is that doubled octaves are the melody being played by two instruments and parallel octaves are the melody and harmony coinciding an octave apart?

comment Whose idea was it to put three pedals on a piano?
Note the sostuneto pedal is not standard everywhere. It is mostly found in American grands. Many European pianos have two pedals.

comment Aiding the transcription of naturally occuring sounds. e.g. Horse whinnying, bird singing, etc
@FranklinVP I think I understand. You're trying to make a trombone produce the sound of a horse whining. Are you trying to replicate the timbre also, or just the pitch?

comment Small natural above C in G Major
I don't see why it should mean that. Th trill is always on the first beat here, not the third. I don't see who would confuse it. The fourth movement doesn't even have any trills.

comment Small natural above C in G Major
Any idea why the B has a natural on it also? I can provide the preceding measures there to give more context if it helps.

comment How does one help a student sing in a “missing” range?
I have this issue also. I sang in a choir for two years being one of four males in the entire choir. The only work-around I've ever found is by 'manually' moving the tongue to control the pitch.

comment Developing a good practice routine for piano improvisation with a band
I wouldn't say abandon sheet music, but it definitely shouldn't be the majority of your practice period.
