comment Equivalent Key Signatures
Re Colin's answer - you never defined whether the key was the key of the piece, or the key the instruments part is written in to compensate. E.g. if the tune is basically in G maj., the trumpet part would be written in A .My experiece says that horn players prefer to read in flats, whereas guitarists prefer sharps - every open string on a guitar is the tonic of a # key, and it's maybe easier to sharpen a guitar note than flatten it, but brass players find it easier to flatten notes.
