What do you do when a string breaks or you drop your pick on stage? That's why I'm a hardtail kind of guy. |

What chord is formed by the open strings of a guitar in standard (EADGBe) tuning? We got a new song at practice yesterday, and the chord chart is filled with Am11. I tried to math it out for a while, and also made due with Am7, then I thought of this question and the answers and played 5-5-5-5-5-5. |

What exactly should I have to learn to understand why certain combination of chords are harmonic when played in a sequence? Not everything follows those rules, but enough does, or at least rhymes, that this will have you covered for much of what you'd want to do. Well done, Alex. |

Why is the G/F chord not shown? The G chord doesn't have an F#, just G B and D. The Gmaj7 chord has the F#. And just because the composer put an F or F# in the bass, that's no reason to think that the F is wanted elsewhere in the chord. |

What is the downside of ultra-low action? Mattias IA Eklundh plays with very high action - guitarplayer.com/article/86723 - but it is easy to argue that a man who transcribed his inkjet printer is not in his right mind. |

What are the repercussions of using really thick gauge strings on my electric guitar? The more you drop, the more you have to pull the saddle back. If you go back to standard, the saddles need to go back again. You know you have it right when the note at the 12th fret is one octave above the open note. All you should need is a tuner and a screwdriver to adjust it. |

Should I learn to read standard notation? If the writing is done in the modern way, straight to tape, then writing it isn't so necessary. I'm 83% supporting Neil on this point, though. |

How do I develop a good vibrato? I'll add a variation on violin vibrato. Violin vibrato is very subtle and isn't too noticeable with high-tension metal strings, but some folks who do it on electric jump over the frets. Greg Howe is one player I can name who does that. |

How can I stop my electric guitar strings from rusting so quickly? I know that there are some who feel that the Elixir Polywebs sucked the high end out of their guitar tone and felt dead, which is why there are now Nanowebs, which use a much lighter coating. I hope Dwayne strings some up and tells us how he likes 'em. |

How to learn to play guitar with a slide ? A friend made a bottleneck slide for me, and I loved it, but it broke. The ones you get from places like Dunlop are Pyrex and more sturdy. I think they sound and feel about the same, but they don't break. |
