I'm a developer for pay and a guitarist for fun.

comment How can I stop my electric guitar strings from rusting so quickly?
I know that there are some who feel that the Elixir Polywebs sucked the high end out of their guitar tone and felt dead, which is why there are now Nanowebs, which use a much lighter coating. I hope Dwayne strings some up and tells us how he likes 'em.

comment How to learn to play guitar with a slide ?
A friend made a bottleneck slide for me, and I loved it, but it broke. The ones you get from places like Dunlop are Pyrex and more sturdy. I think they sound and feel about the same, but they don't break.

If you could name the song, and/or link to a youtube video, that might help.

I do get you. I have MANY slides, from coricidin bottles to Craftsman sockets, and I don't have the hand strength or control to keep a heavy slide from knocking on the frets with 10s and low action. My #2 has high action and 12s just so I can use whichever slide I want.

When you're learning, that extra 2mm is fine. But 10s with fairly low action work fine with a glass slide.

comment Are there exercises similar to the 'Buddha rope' for endurance on bass guitar?
I did some looking, and it seems the technique is to put the rope under the strings to raise the action, which makes that fretting harder. But that's a fretting-hand technique. I have no advice for getting your picking hand in shape, which is why I commented and didn't answer.

I agree with the other two. This adds no information from which you can work.

comment What is “Phrasing” in the context of playing a Solo?
Not just existing material, but material from other instruments. Guitarists can sit down and play 8th-note licks until their arm falls off, but horn players and singers have to come up for air sometimes. If you want to get better phrasing, listen to singers and horn players. Try to take a singer's melody line and play it on guitar.

comment Skills needed for classical guitar
I'm more in your boat than theirs, so I'll comment, not answer, but what I see is them doing active basslines with active treble lines, which is like travis picking but harder. The stuff amazes me.

comment What can be done about a buzzy sitar-like fret?
I had adjusted the truss rod to lower the action some, a while ago, and looking at it, there was some back-bow. My poor truss rod decision is probably more the problem than an ill-cut nut, but I might consider changing to bone or Tusq for the nut and saddles some day.

I should be clear. The frets are worn down. There's spots where it's clear where the string goes and the frets follow a different curve at the treble end of the fret, but if you look down the fretboard, you do not see a fret not looking level with the rest, which would occur if a fall knocked a fret out of the groove or something. But yeah, I do intend to see a tech.
