I play the double bass, electric bass, most brass instruments - with a preference for the low - and some other instruments, as well as sing (choir, á capella and solo). I know a fair bit of music theory and arranging, as well as some musical acoustics. I have a huge crush on musical instruments in general. My main focus is jazz and related genres, but I find myself in other contexts now and then.

comment Setting up Distortion on an Amp
Isn't the "Volume" knob the gain of this amp; so you can crank that up high to get distorsion, and adjust the output volume with the "Master" knob?

comment Which are the ~15 most common time signatures?
@Valentin: I suppose you've also looked at what time signatures are commonly readily available in other metronome apps, DAWs, and music notation software? These should give an indication on how other software producers have reasoned.

comment Which are the ~15 most common time signatures?
@Valentin: Why don't you let the user choose the number of beats and the note value separately, or at least have that as an option? That would open for greater flexibility. (I suppose you've read this wikipedia page?

comment what is causing this buzzing sound on my A string
@JCP: Since the third partial of A is the tone E it's actually very natural for the A string to start ringing (with the frequency of the higher E) when the high E string is strum. You can equally try it on a piano by slowly (in order to not hit the string with the hammer but releasing the damper on that string) pressing down any key and then quickly hit and release the key an octave and a fifth above. You will then hear the high fifth ringing on the undamped string.

comment What does it mean for a synth to be “dirty”?
@JCP: I believe you've got the alto sax graph in place of the clarinet. (The clarinet, by construction, only has odd numbered harmonics. From the clarinet graph in the link, I guess that is not entirely true though; at least not for C 261.62 Hz where the 4th, 6th, 8th etc harmonics are present in the graph.)
