Added note on problems with four valves, and as it is solved by the four-valve compensating system.

comment Trumpet low C♯ and D
@naught101: Yes, depressing valves lengthens the total tubing. Perhaps he means that the more valves you press, the shorter the total length will be compared to ideal length for the tone to play.

comment How do I know when I'm singing in key?
@LeeWhite The occarina has a more simple frequency pattern, which makes sense to use a tuner. The human voice has a more complex frequency pattern, which will more easily confuse the tuner without necessarily being off pitch.

comment What use is knowing how many sharps or flats a key signature has?
You don't even have to memorize the entire order. Just the first two. For sharps, you start with F# and C#. Then go one up sequentially for the following pairs (3rd is one up from F# => G#, 4th is one up from C# => D# etc.). For flats, you start with Bb and Eb, then go one down sequentially for the following pairs.

comment Why do wind bands use a concert Bb for tuning?
@pat: The fact that it is transposed do matter. For Bb instruments it is Bb that is the natural key that instrument.

comment Why do wind bands use a concert Bb for tuning?
In school bands in Norway where I live, there is most common to have tuba in Eb. It is also quite common to have tenor horn in Eb. For brass bands, it's more common to have tuba in Bb.
