comment Amplifier has no aux in, what alternatives can I use?
@galley: The USB link into an wall socket would combine the signals from the guitar and MP3 player, and send them into the wall... The output is the USB plug with purpose to record on a computer using some recording software.

comment Stopping high E string from muting by palm when using thumb to frett
As it seems this use a static fretting on 2 on that string, a "cheat" could be to tune up the E string to F#, so you can play it open... That is, if you don't need lower tuning on that string in other parts of the same song...

comment Learn guitar chords?
@supercat: That's why I gave an alternative F chord on the next line with a comment on being easier if you have problems with barre. Do you have a better / easier alternative for F? I will happily improve my answer if you have a better solution.

comment A total newbie wants to learn how to write songs. What does he need?
If your band has a keyboard player, and guitarist(s) are somewhat beyond beginner, then C major is a good key. If your band does not have any keyboard player, it is easier to use the key of A as in slim's answer.

comment Should a new band seek every possible opportunity to play or just work towards a few big shows?
+1 for "where's the love". For people to like your performance, you need to be passionate about it. That's what makes a performance stand out. Then it doesn't need to be "perfect" as long as the audience is enjoying the atmosphere of the concert.
