comment Is there a difference between 2/4 and 4/4
How can you play 2/2 in 2/4? 2/2 means 2 half-notes per measure, and 2/4 means two quarter notes per measure. They are in no way equal. If you say that you count 4 beats per measure in the 2/2, it is really "ONE-and-TWO-and". If you say that you think double tempo of what is written, it's alla breve, not 2/4. (Actually the time signature for alla breve is per definition 2/2.)

comment Should I be learning groove skills if I am not yet good at chords
I recommend that you search on YouTube for some basic guitar lessons, and just follow them through. They will help in understanding a number of basic questions you might have. Then come back if you have more specific questions that can easily be answered here without having to give a full feature lesson on music theory basics like Bob bravely tried to do for you ;-)

comment Why are only even values used for note duration?
@AmericanLuke: Maybe you should include in your answer something about the relation between beat and time signature. The time signature is telling what is a beat, and the tempo (as you already said) defines the number of beats per minute.

revised How to identify a pop tune that has vocal harmonization that does not move in parallel motion
Changed to be more asking on methods to identify such patterns to not appear as a "shopping list" / idetifying question. It still leaves the possibility open to provide examples in the answers.

@Hans: It would help if you provide a bit more background info on why you want this answered. It would help in how to phrase the answers and what kind of examples to provide, and to be more useful to others that might share your interest in this.

revised Retrograde and Inverted songs
Slightly changed text to make sure it does not scream "identifying (or finding) a particular song, genre, instrument, etc. are off-topic", Although it still is on the border of "Off topic", it might be useful.

comment What is this common chord pattern, if that's the right term?
To answer this, it is important to know the definition for "arpeggiated" (reference for others who don't know what it is).
