Is there any way to improve composing? So, let's say things like these. Brain Eno, Eric Satie, Lustmord, High Tone and finally Mark Morgan. I know that's a lot links, but that's some of mine main inspirations, let's say. I'd be very grateful for any advice. Ah, and instruments - pianos, marimbas, flutes, drums, guitars maybe. I don't have all of them physically, but my software can handle it ;) |

Is there any way to improve composing? @tptcat Well I think my thing is ambient/industrial with some influences from dub and glitch. I know it's hard to find something suitable to this, but if you think of Brain Eno or Eric Satie as a base, I think that will give you overall idea. Also, I'm dying to write at least one piece like Mark Morgan - Smoldering Corpse Bar. (don't know how to use url in comments yet). I know that's a lot I'm asking about, but given opportunity I want as much knowledge I can receive :P |

Is there any way to improve composing? Great answer, thank you! But - it's difficult to me to write music without hearing it. I never attended any music school, never studied any books, and besides some terms I'm seriously lacking musical education (theory, that's it). Could you recommend some good sources/exercises to learn music and be able to write it down? Because all I can write without hearing actual sound are the drum notes, and that's quite different ;) |
