I have worked in a technical support role for several industries and love the problem-solving aspects of my work as well as helping clients maximize their productivity.
A life-long curiosity drives my interests ranging from creative writing, photo-editing, music, problem-solving puzzles such as sudoku, cooking and baking, all types of crafting, sewing and yarn arts, creative resources on the internet and learning new apps for my favorite toy...my iPhone.

How does one start learning music theory? Excellent answer that outlines a typical music theory curriculum (very similar to one I followed in school). OP should benefit from such a thorough overview. |

Capturing music in my head @Tony- I totally agree with you and learning to sing (and hear) the intervals has been extremely useful to me, too, as a singer. I guess I was just thinking about how overwhelmed the OP might be with everything needed to be learned. Thx for feedback! |

Capturing music in my head @Tony, I'd only suggest that ear training for intervals and chords, etc., might be more productive for OP than sight singing. I know what you meant by that but I don't think the OP needs to learn to sing in order to compose (though it's never a bad skill to have!) |

Why isn't there a reed aerophone with valves? Wow! Even though I play both clarinet and trumpet, I never gave this subject any thought. Great answer, NReilingh! |

How to keep practicing to compose music when you're too picky to listen to yourself playing @Josh- I agree that time and distance can be important tools to let ideas ripen. |

How to keep practicing to compose music when you're too picky to listen to yourself playing @Luke - creativity does have a psychological component, IMHO, but OP will likely get better musically practical advice in this forum than in another one. |
