Oboe student and Music Theory tutor. Doing my level best to represent the good instruments (a.k.a. orchestral winds) on this site. :P

Why do marches usually end with a repetition of the last note? Often conductors opt not to play them as well. I know a former conductor at Ithaca hated them and would point blank refuse to have his ensembles play them. |

Piano mordent with two notes Just double checking, are we talking about measure 3? Because there's an 8th note pick up before the first measure which could look like a full measure... ;-) |

What instrument is inexpensive and can be self-taught? It's also appropriately hipster, and sure to impress ;-) |

Could B♭ instruments be built in C? Why are they in B♭ in the first place? A lot of this information is transferrable, and what is different Wikipedia can tell you. Not being a brass player, I don't want to try and hack at my memory of Brass Techniques. :-P |

Learning another instrument? What are you actually looking for? Multi-instrumentalists talking about their experiences? What size gradient mouthpieces cover? If it's worth attempting for some variety of music degree? |

Effect of Rubbing Alcohol Upon Reeds Among those who teach woodwinds, this is common. Actually, I think one used hydrogen peroxide... It's also common among those who share non-standard instruments like English Horn. I'm extrapolating personal information and assuming it's not unusual. And only using saliva on reeds wierds me out these days :-P |

How can I reduce the echo/reverb in a large room if I can't add physical damping? Ouch. Good luck! If you find a solution let us know! |
