comment Representing the snapping of the damper pedal to create an ambient tone in sheet music
I think a written description should be included. Maybe even define your own symbol for it. It has worked on all pianos I've ever tried it but I haven't tried what it sounds like for the audience. In a bigger hall with not-so-excellent acoustics or a tiny bit of extra background noise it might not even be audible at all.

comment What does a pair of long horizontal lines between two whole notes mean?
Sounds like MIDI. Probably the notation software playing back the score so in a way the sound and notation match perfectly.

comment Triplet question
And I was just trying to point out that yes, he wrote it out and that's how he plays it. Kapustin is basically a modern classical composer writing often in the style of jazz. What he's playing here is no improvisation or arrangement.

The HE who wrote the music is Kapustin and that's also who's playing in the video.

comment How to help students remember Half vs. Whole rests
Here's what I do: When reading music I just calculate which one fits. When writing music by hand I randomly choose one and hope the reader doesn't remember it either. This works very well in practice.
