comment Dealing with sharp fret ends
Make sure you file in the direction of the fret board. If you are filing in the other direction and the file bites the fret strongly enough, you can lift it right out of the channel.

comment Resources for learning the Blues
To generalize AD's example above: for a solo, pick a fret, call it x. the pattern he describes (acdeg...) = x, x+3 / x, x+2 / x, x+2 / x, x+2 / x, x+3, / x, x+3 (where the / = move to next string). If x = open E, then you are playing e blues pattern, x = 5 ? A blues, x = 3 ? G blues

comment How to record the sound of an acoustic guitar with a magnetic pickup?
@ J Assyptoth: if you are responding to the other post about them not being suitable, what he said is not strictly correct. It is correct in the sense that it is a low quality solution, but it will work. The biggest issue with these setups is ground loops and unshielded cables. There are ways to deal with both of these situations.

When I was a teen back in the stone age with no money, I would place a pair of decent headphones on the guitar body (like a clip)

@AD 1st comment: No, you didn't say it explicitly, but only by way of saying that they make choices. Everything else you say is correct in my mind. The OP want to know why he doesn't improvise "in the style of that guy," but I think the real answer is that he isn't that guy. Even twins raised in nearly the exact same environment have differences in style, but that's a whole other discussion!
