I'm an avid programmer, enjoy creating things, enjoy a good puzzle and especially enjoy foxing people with a Java puzzle now and again!
Outside of my coding life, I have a number of other interests, including outdoors activities such as hiking / geocaching / letterboxing. I'm also fond of music - I enjoy listening to it as well as playing the piano and violin.

Teaching a student to match pitch Do you think the problem is with her not being able to match the pitch mentally, physically not being able to generate the right pitch with her voice, or a bit of both? |

How many lessons are necessary to pick up the basics of violin with sufficient practice? Have you any experience playing other instruments? |

What is the proper technique for a glissando on piano? @MikeWelsh Build it up slowly - don't overdo it, and you should be fine :) |

Why do string players tend to breathe heavily in performance? I'm twisting your words into a joke, don't worry. Ignore me ;-) |

Why do string players tend to breathe heavily in performance? "String instrument players don't need to breathe to play" Really? I wouldn't like to play, say, Sibelius' violin concerto without breathing. Sounds tough ;-) |

How can you tell if the sound of an electroacustic nylon guitar is going to be good? @luserdroog Sure, there's quality indicators to look for, but I've been surprised at how bad some expensive, technically "good" instruments have sounded to my ears and vice versa - so these days I generally (deliberately) put all preconceptions aside and just go and try the thing out. |

How can you tell if the sound of an electroacustic nylon guitar is going to be good? You, well, just can't really - it's one of the reasons I'd always trying out instruments before buying them. |
