Acoustic guitar: How to stop right index finger nail from wearing away? thanks for the clarification. It seems that you need to work on your technique. For example, I mainly use picks and I hold them really thight. It always says that it should show 2-3 millimeters of the tip of the pick, in my case it's only about one mm. I have a rather strong picking style too, but I don't have the problem you have. So, maybe you should work out on your precision, to prevent your nail from dissolving. edit: maybe it's the way you're holding the pick? I checked my grip, and It's not possible (under normal conditions) for my index finger to even touch the strings! |

Acoustic guitar: How to stop right index finger nail from wearing away? hahaha, impure thoughts^^ Well humidity could be a factor, but I don't think you can do much about this problem, except to don't use your fingers and use some sorta pick... But I doubt you'd change your style because of this problem. |

What is the difference between a “band” and an “orchestra” +1 interesting question. I've been wondering about that, too. |

Do distortion pedals work well with tube amps? Or should I use a tube screamer? @DRL, time will tell, I got mine only a couple weeks ago. My local music-shop got me one, so I can test it. The vendor was like wtf whe we un-packed and test-played it. (He never saw or heard one before, like me) Then we used a 'little' Marshall MR1960AV box (yeah, THE classic box) to test the external speaker jack... at this moment I knew that I need to take the amp, and get a V30 loaded cabinet. I also felt that 1 Watt CAN be overkill for some purposes... doesn't matter, I love it, my mom hates it. (she can't understand why I need one at home, when my band-room is so "near"... silly woman) |

Do distortion pedals work well with tube amps? Or should I use a tube screamer? @Dre, I'm mostly using no-name pedals of the house-brand of my favourite shop, because they make awesome copies of well-known pedals. They're rock solid and often work as good/better the original, I compared some. (Don't ask me how they do this) For my Home-Equipment I got the Metal Muff copy thomann.de/de/harley_benton_extreme_metal.htm and the overdrive is this one: images.thomann.de/pics/prod/256803.jpg (rather hot OD) I also got a Boss MT-2 copy, a digital delay and the orig. Boss NS-2. The 2x12 is of the same brand, loaded with Celestion V30 for ~200 bucks, it's crazy. |

Do distortion pedals work well with tube amps? Or should I use a tube screamer? +1 I had a similiar question like Dre some weeks ago. And I can tell you are using wise words ;) In my home-equipment, I'm now using both, an overdrive and a distortion pedal in front of my HT1, to use them for different scenarios. I also plan to use my old NS2 to reduce the noise, once I get my ISP Decimator for my band-equipment and get a 2x12 with some V30 -> Ultimate bedroom rig! |

What's the best choice to get more juice out of a tube-amplifier. thanks, your tips are highly appreciated. I will certainly test some cabinets first before I make a final decision. I'm just curious about a v30 equipped 212 box because I found this one: thomann.de/de/harley_benton_g212_vintage.htm - It's available in europe only (np for me, I live in germany), and I often heard of the box, that it has an insanely good value for the money. (pro box for pocket money) I'm not cheap, especially when it comes to guitar equipment, but I try to save money whenever it's possible. So I'll definitely try this one out. :D |

What's the best choice to get more juice out of a tube-amplifier. Useful and interesting answer, thank you. But, It doesn't needs to be THE ideal metal tone, it just needs more gain (it already has -> I just added a overdrive- and a lower-gain distortion-pedal in front (the overdrive pushes the distortion quite nice through the clean-channel imo)). I might add a 2x12 w/ V30's, because I heard that it really works well with 2x12 and 4x12 cabinets. In fact I tested it with a 2x12 box right after I bought the amp. So again, my goal was to get a usable amplifier for bedroom use (so 1W -> obvious choice). For "proper" equipment, I have my band session room. |
