Just another tired old developer...

comment With which strings would I have an easier time bending/sliding/vibrato on acoustic guitar?
@DrMayhem: It happens for me... Especially with a brand new fast fret application. The strings slip from under my fingers in all cases. I've been playing for about 32 years and have tried FF several times since it was first created.

IME, Fast Fret and coated strings make it harder to bend as things are slippery... Tuning down to Eb or D would probably be the better idea for bending. Sliding is a different story. Choose your poison! :)

comment How to play a song without making mistakes?
Off Topic, but... Why are all these old questions popping to the top of the list? An amateur does something until he gets it right. A professional does something until he cannot get it wrong.

comment What are the differences between these tuning machines?
The quality of the Fender tuning machines is quite a bit better than the behringers. Other than that, there's probably not much difference. Beware of very cheap tuners.

comment Can't feel meter when playing
Is Dunning/Kruger in effect here? The nastiness makes me wonder.

comment Guitar practice - general techniques
FWIW, I have tried the method in the post above in the past and failed repeatedly. It wasn't until I spent a significant amount of time (4+ weeks) working on something slowly and building up to speed in a similar manner to the OP that I got results. A good example, for me anyway, is the opening lead in I Know A Little by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

comment How do I fix a stripped pickguard screw?
@cadmium: Drilling is overkill. 1 toothpick is usually enough. A drop or 2 of wood glue does not hurt either.

comment What are the Five Most Important Things to Learn?
@IrishChieftain: If you want a challenge playing blues, transcribe some of the early Little Charlie and the Nightcats. Charlie Baty is a very tough nut to crack. I'd start with things from All The Way Crazy, Big Break and Disturbing The Peace. Charlie got alot harder to follow after the first live album. (Read: I couldn't do most of them... :)

comment What are the Five Most Important Things to Learn?
@IrishChieftain: Listening, transcribing and just flat out playing will develop your ear. One of the fastest improvement times I had in my playing was when I had to play 6 nights a week, 6 hours a stretch and learn all the material at the same time. I did this for about 8 weeks. :)

See how others do it so you have some context. For example, I Will Survive by the band Cake.

comment Comparing aspects of the Boss GT-10 and the POD HD500
The GT10 has a built in looper. (I have one). I returned an HD500 because I thought the build quality was poor and it wouldn't stand up to the 4 - 6 times a month I play out or rehearse. If you like lots of gain, I'd avoid both and get the Zoom G5. Both the GT10 and the HD500 are decent computer interfaces.

comment What are the differences between an American and Mexican Fender Stratocaster?
@HakanDeryal: Totally and completely disagree with the build quality statements. See my comment to KeithS's answer for details.

comment What are the differences between an American and Mexican Fender Stratocaster?
This was true until 2006 or so, at least of build quality, when Fender MIA quality went to crap. I suspect this was about the time that marketing people took over management of the company. I bought (and returned) 2 MIA strats (one an SRV) for build quality problems. I've since bought a MIM that was better in all build quality aspects but had some part quality problems. It's much easier to swallow having to buy new pickups for a $300 guitar vs a $1000 guitar...

comment Trying to get that tube sound from a gainclone amp
Use a modeler like the Boss GT-10, Digitech RP500 or the Vox Tonelab to get a decent tube sound.

comment Is there such a thing as a silent drum set?
Note that the electronic kits with mesh heads are about 1/2 as loud as the heads that are like practice pads. You can't hear the mesh heads over the TV in some cases.

comment Is there some software tool that analyzes audio to produce pitch information?
Transcribe! is a Windows program that can help pick out the notes from a spectrogram, as well as change tempo and pitch independently. It also has other features that make transcription and practice easier.

comment What factors affect a guitar's ability to sustain a note?
I have 1 minor nit to pick with this answer, which is otherwise well thought out and complete. A Kahler style tremolo does not effect sustain much if at all. It has very small, tight springs and the block is very heavy.

comment Are there any publicly available databases ( not just web apps ) of guitar chords?
Any reason you can't just compute them?

comment What is the best software, to cut a loop out of a song, for rehearsal purposes?
There is no need to cut. Use Audacity or Transcribe to set the loop boundaries then just play the loop.

comment How important is it for a guitar player to know the notes which make up a chord?
@JoshFields: Josh, I've been given "chord sheets" in several contexts from completely informal (here are the chords for "x") to the recording studio (here's my arrangement, we do this in the key of "x"). However my studio experience is limited to the early/mid 80s so YMMV.
