comment Are there digital pianos that don't have too many features?
Yes, but I'm mainly a guitarist so my needs might not reflect that of a more demanding pianist. But I've played pianos with much nicer pedal and better weighted keys, but those were four times the price as well.

comment Why does the quality of the sound of guitar strings decay over time?
Wash your hands before playing. Afterwards wipe the string with a towel. I can easily make my strings last a year that way.

comment Assess child's ability or interest in music and piano
I'm in a similar situation with my one year old son. I know I already have his interest because he's been listening to me everyday for his entire life and I've read that babies listen while in their mothers stomach too. Easiest way to help him sleep is for me to play the guitar so that he can hear it. Hopefully I have planted a seed to his future interest in music and playing instruments.

From my point of view $600 isn't inexpensive, but I'll agree with you if compared with Martins and other high range guitars.

Thanks for the info. I just bought a spruce parlor from the mentioned manufacturer. I can still smell the glue from the sound hole so I assume it's brand new. I wonder if I'll hear a difference a year from now? :-)

Simon & Patrick guitars are inexpensive? Could have fooled me. ;-)

comment Should I choose strings differently depending of type of guitar?
I mostly fingerpick and adjust the volume so that my family can enjoy it as background music. I just put on a set of light Ernie Ball on my dreadnought which I have to say feel better than the Elixirs I used to use. I'll take a look at flat wounds when it's time to change on my parlor. Thanks. :-)
