My fingers are huge; how do I adjust on a piano? All that comes to mind for me is: Transpose what you are playing to key of C, or Write your own. |

How to prevent a string from breaking during a performance? Wish I had done more than skimmed it before I posted the link :(, I first saw it mentioned in an article by a weekly author from the local paper. I Googled so I could get the story to post here. I did not really think it was fake because I believed it is doable. But, (thankfully), my point still is not entirely invalidated if you see where it says "Carrying on after losing a string without interrupting the performance is certainly within the capabilities of a world-class violinist". But thanks for getting me to read my own link @Rein. |

How often is it recommended to change bass strings? This sounds like a joke... lasted ten years... nobody would use it because of the short... that might be why it lasted so long :) |

How do you remember your music and how do I improve in this regard? +1 for your progress without formal education. |

How do you remember your music and how do I improve in this regard? I will add to that if you don't mind: If you want to play a song by ear (including the fullness of the music, not just the main tune), it helps to listen to it frequently for some time, so you don't have to pause and rewind during the time you put it to the piano. |

Are there any machine-readable databases of chord progressions available? @James: Interesting. The reason I ask is because I am a programmer and I think it is possible and within reason to write a program to add a left hand to a melody that ands up sounding good... and I wondered how far that concept has been taken or if that was what you were talking about. That would be the part about "generating chord progressions". Glad this category has not been left untouched! |

Are there any machine-readable databases of chord progressions available? I am curious. What are you actually doing with this "linguistics-inspired computational musicology on chord progressions"? Are you writing software of some kind? |

What notes on the piano do the Ukulele strings equate to? We prefer not to have link-only answers because if the get-tuned.com goes down or gets re-worked, the answer would likely become useless. I edited in the illistration. |
