"All this stuff can't really be taught and this is what makes some people better than others..." That's quite an unfair assumption. Yes, it's difficult if you're trying to do it on your own, but if your teacher knows how to do it, then they can teach it. A teacher might say "I'm going to play this phrase like this, you listen, then repeat after me."
