May 8, 2020 at 13:26 comment added cricardol I imagine you could use lower tension / easier strings and work your way back to the strings you used to use. When you want to be able to benchpress 200pounds 10 times, you start with 100 pounds 10 times.
Dec 23, 2017 at 9:10 comment added Peter Kirkpatrick @Aba, you play the whole exercise in 7th position. This means that you play the fret 7 notes with your first finger (left hand). Play fret 8 notes with finger 2, fret 9 notes with finger 3 and so on. In theory you can play this whole exercise pressing and lifting individual fingers on one string at a time. But the idea here is that you can improve your barre chord technique if you place finger 1 as a barre across all 6 strings at fret 7. then press and lift the other fingers to play the note series as listed.
Jan 22, 2017 at 17:05 comment added Aba @Silver Light Can you please explain your second exercise more clearly?
Jan 16, 2015 at 9:00 comment added Mr. Boy Basically it does just come down to practice, there is technique to it but you do require a certain basic level of strength especially to play one for a long time rather than "look I can play a barre".

Jan 19, 2011 at 22:50 comment added yossarian These are great exercises. I'll add, if you're teaching yourself, find some videos (or even better a person) that can help you with your technique. Hand position isn't super intuitive, but it makes a big difference.
