Nov 6, 2021 at 12:44 comment added Nikos @Tim does the NNS always start from 1 for either major or minor? so in B major, B is 1 and in B minor B is 1?
May 21, 2015 at 15:32 comment added Tim Last night I asked a guitarist to play something in C that he normally played in D. (It was too high for a harmony). Capo wouldn't have helped...
May 21, 2015 at 15:19 comment added amalgamate Yes, I agree. I can do that on some days when my head is clear. If I learned something like NNS when I first started, I suspect that it would be like the back of my hand by now though. Alas, I can always pull out my capo, or work it out ahead of time.
May 21, 2015 at 15:14 comment added Tim @amalgamate - it's certainly worth getting to grips with NNS, but more important, I think, is to be able to see or know a song in one key, and be able to play it straight in any other key. That's probably a more useful skill - I need it all the time depping or accompanying at open mic gigs.
May 21, 2015 at 15:09 comment added amalgamate I am certainly a poor messenger here, as I have no experience with it, and am unlikely to ever bother, but I think it's worth learning something that is actually used by others even if it is flawed. There are times when I wish I did know it.
May 21, 2015 at 15:01 comment added Tim @amalgamate - yes, except NNS can stray from the straight and narrow, and I find some bits are not as crystal clear as they should be, especially when hand-written.
May 21, 2015 at 14:45 comment added amalgamate @Nikos: If you learn NNS then you have a standard that you can use and share with others. It is good to follow standards, as they open you to a community of knowledge and participation.

May 21, 2015 at 8:42 comment added Nikos NNS is pretty similar to what I was using thanks. I will make the investment to learn minor numbers properly now!
