We can just edit the tags. I have no opinion about this question and very little knowledge of the subject matter, so I'll leave the validity of the question to others - meanwhile it seems to be acceptable. Certainly a lot of cases are judgment calls and you might disagree. That's why there's a Meta Site Music Practice and Theory - Meta - air your grievances there and see what you get back.

Jan 16, 2012 at 15:45 | comment | added | slim | @JimR he clearly doesn't mean DJ in the sense of playing records on the radio or in a club. He wants to create electronic music, and that's fair game albeit rather broad.
Jul 25, 2011 at 3:10 | comment | added | JimR | How is a DJ related to music performance or theory? I've seen much more on-topic questions closed.

Jul 20, 2011 at 16:48 | comment | added | user28 | @yossarian But we have individual and at least somewhat specific questions on those things. This is way too broad. That said, I'm willing to re-open for you to answer.
Jul 20, 2011 at 16:15 | comment | added | yossarian | @Matthew, I totally disagree. I think the question is certainly sufficient for a complete answer, and I could give one. There are two basic paths, each with a couple of common choices. I could definitely supply a pretty definitive answer to this question. I think if you use the guitar analogy, it's similar to the questions about electric, acoustic, type, style, amps, effects.
Jul 19, 2011 at 14:32 | comment | added | user28 | I still think that's kind of unanswerable, Saeed. There's no one right first step. You say you've built themes, I would think what you want next is to develop them into music you can perform. Do you feel you're lacking something to bring it together musically? Are you unsure as to how to produce a particular effect? Do you have questions about performing? I think if you really look at what is problematic for you at the moment you can come up with a more specific question.
Jul 19, 2011 at 5:09 | comment | added | Saeed Neamati | I'm afraid @Ben, I haven't found the answer to this simple question on the Internet. "What is the first step to become a DJ?". Event this answer is vague. Should I purchase a DJ Booth? Is there a book that I have to read as my first step. Look, I want to become a DJ, and as I said, I have some themes already built. Now what? I'm totally empty here. No idea to take which step now. Isn't it a normal question? Isn't it answerable?
Jul 19, 2011 at 5:00 | comment | added | Sophie Alpert | You don't seem to have elaborated on what specifically you're looking for, which is what was asked for. There are several pages online that have some guidelines; what about them is lacking and what are you confused about?

Jul 18, 2011 at 20:43 | comment | added | user28 | @Saaed List questions generally end up with bad answers, as exemplified by gemne's (no explanation, no references, no personal experience to relate, a random incomplete list). For this reason we prefer questions that ask how to solve a problem; "How can I become a DJ?" would be an example. You'd still need to flesh out that question with details, of course - your experience, goals, appeal for answerers' experience, criteria for good answers, etc. I think your premise here is flawed also since DJs use a variety of tools and there's no definitive list, unlike how guitarists always need a guitar.
