I just bought a 12 string oud/lute from Egypt, and I'm having some problems with its tuning.

Sometimes when I twist the machine headstuning peg to get in tuning, it releases suddenly and drops the tuning all the way back, so I have to twist and press the machine headpeg against the hole everytime. When I'm playing it, sometimes it releases the machine headitself and rolls back the tuning againback to the start.

I just want to know if it's normal for an oud being rustic this much, or if my oud came with a problem. If so, I need to exchange for a new one quickly.

Is it normal for an Oud/Lute not keeping in tune?
