Jan 30, 2019 at 17:59 | comment | added | Michael Curtis | where is the music box specific problem? otherwise this is just another 'how do I write a good melody' question
Jan 30, 2019 at 15:38 | comment | added | condosz | @CarlWitthoft The music box I'm working with is the (make your own) Music Box Kit by Kikkerland.
Jan 30, 2019 at 15:20 | comment | added | Carl Witthoft | @Tim nothing, I suppose, other than the simplicity of the composition itself.

Jan 30, 2019 at 13:07 | comment | added | Carl Witthoft | This is far too broad, since you could write a Gregorian chant or a 2-note rap "beat"
Jan 30, 2019 at 13:07 | comment | added | Carl Witthoft | If this is for a specific music box, please post information, links, etc. to the machine itself. There are plenty of "music boxes' out there with accidentals included.
Jan 30, 2019 at 11:38 | comment | added | jjmusicnotes | Odd time sigs are fine, you'll just have a hell of a time trying to keep track of everything as you're writing on the paper. As others have said, you've got all the modes to use as well. Last piece of advice: be careful not to put your notes too close together otherwise they won't sound. You can get away with 16th notes if the notes are farther apart; 16th-note scales can't really happen, but you can add little ornamentation here and there.
