I'm a total beginner in singing and I'd like to learn to sing this song with two friends: I Know You Rider by the Grateful Dead. There should be three voices (Jerry, Bobby and Phil), but I'm not even sure of that. Specifically I'm interested in the the part that is quite clear from 9:53 to 10:04 in this live version:

Grateful Dead - China Cat Sunflower / I Know You Rider (5-3-72)

If someone more skilled could tell me the number of voices, and at least maybe the starting points, i.e. the first two or three notes of each voice, that would be a huge help!

It seems like there are indeed 3 voices. Here is an idea of what they do, sounds good but lacks a lot of subtilities

3 voices transcribed

  • That is awesome, thanks a lot! I can't really read notes but piece by piece I managed to find them on guitar.. I think: dropbox.com/s/kkpgd9nti62gtcr/china_rider_voices.mp3?dl=0

  • No worries, it was a huge help. Yeah it's gotta be one of my favourite live performances ever! We play China Cat too, that's easier to sing though. But harder to play ha. This is currently my favorite version: youtube.com/watch?v=Yhk4Ea0JnEs That intro jam is heavenly!
