I am looking for a style of Classical guitar that I'm not sure exists. Take this piece as an example, Rachmaninoff Prelude Op. 23 No. 5. I find that this piece, although created for the piano, sounds perfect for the guitar. Is there someone that composes for the guitar like this?
Guitar pieces are made to be played by one hand (the fret hand), whilst piano is for two hands. Prelude Op. 23 No. 5 was designed for two hands (the piano, treble clef and bass clef) but the classical guitar interpretation seems to work. On the piano, the right hand is usually the melody and the left hand is usually the chords. The guitar composers I know of have the melody parts driving the piece, whereas piano composers use both hands to drive the piece.
I have seen the hook of Polonaise Op. 53 played on the guitar in a way that works too.
