I am working on a folk music project. We have midi files of a local 'fiddle player' and want to print a good quality music tutor from his tunes. I am looking for software that can output a format be used by a book designer in Adobe Illustrator. We need to edit the music score to 'fit' the page and also either stretch or compress horizontal lines to fit the page width i.e. fit 4 bars or 5 bars per line. We have used Noteworthy before but it is limited.

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:
- "Questions seeking recommendations for specific equipment are off-topic, because they are primarily opinion based. Instead, describe the required function and setting in which the equipment will be used, and ask what you should look for to achieve that." – Todd Wilcox, Tim, Richard, Dave, Dom
There are multiple programs available that will enable you to convert midi files to other formats, allowing you to export as pdf or some other graphic format. My personal favourites are (in order of preference) :

I'm including also links to documentation on midi import :
...and I just read online of a second free alternative, though I have never tried it:
