Hello! I am an artist/musician…I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember and I’ve also had a knack for music…I think my ear was always a little bit above average. My primary instrument is the guitar. I’m mostly self-taught in both traditional art and music. My father is also an artist and he gave me a couple basic tips when I was little - I still remember it like it was yesterday. I also dabbled around with flip-book animation. I was also gifted a Commodore VIC-20; I must have been 8 or 9 years old. With some books my father had, I learned how to program in BASIC and mostly created text adventure games. It died and that was it for programming
There were some art classes in elementary and middle school, but they didn’t really teach me anything that I had not already learned or figured out on my own. I also learned a little bit about music theory in middle school; I always found it interesting but it wasn’t until I was a little older that I started reading more books about it and researching its development on my own time.
I’ve spent the last few years working towards a bachelor’s degree in Game Art and have become proficient with CG software, both 2D and 3D. Several of the instructors recommended that I pursue Animation for my “discipline”. I enjoy every aspect of the CG pipeline and am currently developing a small video game on my own. I’m hoping to do everything including the music/sound effects and programing. The VIC-20 I mentioned got water spilled in it and that was the end of that and my family could not afford another so I basically strayed away from computers until around the years 2000-2001. I really did not start attempting to learn programming until just over the past couple years and with my Game Art course and everything else, it was hard finding time to commit but over the past several months now I have been learning C#. Previous to that I learned a bit of Python and some MEL, (the native language for the Autodesk Maya 3D animation package) which I have used to create my own tools within the software.
I’m hoping to learn from everyone whatever I can concerning music, 3D software, and programming (scripting) and I hope maybe I may be able to help a few others as well. My C# knowledge is still very beginner level. I have fairly decent understanding of music theory and can probably prove to be useful in that area, but I’m sure there are many out there who know more and understand better than I do. I forgot to mention that Unity 3D is the game engine I am using and I hope to be able to get any question I might have answered and will attempt to help anyone that might be like a total newbie. I may end up working with Unreal 4 as well but so far, I prefer Unity.
