Why is dropped D tuning used so often?
I was looking for good example of switching powerchords from Db5 to others that dropped tuning gives some benefits. This tuning is actually half note down but It was not my intention :). I used to play rock acoustic -- even so distorted bands like The Offspring so I felt little old :-) For example Andy Mckee who is definetely acoustic player tunes his guitar very uncommon. :D Did you try heavier strings? If my memory does not trick me KORN plays dropped C. youtube.com/watch?v=_FP5v4S11G8

Recording an amp using headphone out?
I would not recommend USB microphone because then guitar must be acoustically isolated from it. There is nothing worse than background steel string sounds while using heavy distortion. Some people place their guitar in other room than amp and microphone but Peavey Vypyr 30w has headhpone out with speaker simulation so it is ok to record from it with any device. My multieffect has two outputs (mono and stereo) so I can listen what I am playing and recording into computer at the same time.

Looking for logic in Behringer X V-AMP LX-1 default presets... need help
You have fully answered my question, I'll try your advice with organising presets, I'won't need many (less than 20). Dzięki.
