Mar 16, 2016 at 15:36 comment added user2808054 Hi Bradd, I had a listen to "Panic Switch" (nice... ) and I hear the growl you mean but I think it's not distortion : To me it just sounds like a bass guitar with the high mid range turned up a little, so you can hear the note as well as the rumble of the bass. The actualy sound of the bass seems quite clear to me, just with a bit of extra tone. You can also get that from either slapping the strings or using a plectrum, although I don't think that's what's happening in that tune as the attack isn't quite as pronounced.

Jun 4, 2015 at 21:29 comment added B. Szonye @Doug, I did have good luck with the VT Bass Deluxe in the “flip-top” setting (character at 12 o’clock). I found your answer helpful and voted for it. Perhaps you could flesh it out a little more and flag it to be undeleted? I have already found my growl, but listing the exact model and settings you like might be helpful to other readers.
