I noticed that the Phrygian dominant (aka hijaz maqam) is used alota lot in middle easternMiddle-Eastern music. I also noticed that the the oudoud, which is capable of playing microtonal intervals, is used alota lot too and it's microtonal.
Since it'sAlthough the oud can play microtonal intervals, does middle easternMiddle-Eastern music still usually use scales that are made up of 7 diatonic notes (such as phrygianthe Phrygian), that can be played on a non"non-microtonalmicrotonal" instruments such as athe piano? In other words, are the scales that are used in the middle eastMiddle East usually just a "mode" of westernWestern scales (major scale).?
